Semax is a synthetic peptide based on a fragment of the hormone ACTH (the ACTH(4-10) sequence), modified so that it acts on the nervous system without the classic hormonal actions of ACTH. It has been studied, largely in Russia, for neurotrophic signalling — including brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) — and for protective effects on neurons under oxidative and metabolic stress. These remain research-stage observations and should not be read as proven cognitive benefits.
