Semaglutide
GLP-1 receptor agonist · Pre-filled pen
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that mimics the incretin hormone GLP-1. By activating GLP-1 receptors it enhances glucose-dependent insulin release, slows gastric emptying and acts on central appetite pathways to increase satiety. These combined actions underlie its well-studied effects on glycaemic control and body weight.
Studied use areas
- Type 2 diabetes glycaemic control
- Weight management and reduction of excess body weight
- Appetite and satiety regulation
- Cardiovascular risk endpoints in eligible patients
Safety & status
