5-Amino-1MQ is understood to inhibit NNMT, the enzyme that methylates nicotinamide. By reducing this methylation it is thought to preserve nicotinamide for NAD+ regeneration and to shift adipocyte energy metabolism. These effects are described mainly in cell and animal models, and human evidence is currently limited.
