Kisspeptin acts high in the reproductive control system by stimulating the release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus. This in turn prompts the pituitary to release luteinising hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), the gonadotropins that regulate sex-hormone production. Because it sits at the top of the hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal (HPG) axis, it is studied as a precise tool for probing desire and reproductive signalling.
